Two Months of Detention: The Narges Foundation Calls for the Immediate Release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch

The Narges Foundation is deeply concerned by the ongoing detention of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a prominent human rights defender, whose arrest and continued imprisonment raise serious questions under international human rights law. She has now been detained for two months, and we call for her immediate and unconditional release.

“We echo the urgent concerns raised by independent United Nations human rights experts, who have called on the Government of Pakistan to end its targeting of peaceful protesters and to release detained Baloch human rights defenders, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Gulzadi and Beebow Baloch.

“We are extremely concerned for the welfare of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Sammi Deen Baloch, and other human rights defenders detained for exercising their right to peaceful assembly,” the experts stated. “We urge the Pakistani authorities to immediately release them, refrain from misusing counter-terrorism and public order laws against peaceful activists, and clarify without delay the fate and whereabouts of all individuals reportedly subjected to enforced disappearance.”

The Narges Foundation stands in solidarity with Dr Mahrang Baloch and all those peacefully defending human rights in Balochistan and urges the Pakistani authorities to fulfill their obligations under international human rights law.

We also remember the powerful message Dr. Mahrang Baloch recorded in June 2024, expressing solidarity with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Narges Mohammadi and the courageous women of Iran. Her voice, now silenced by detention, continues to echo across borders in the shared struggle for justice and freedom.
