Marking the First Anniversary of Narges Mohammadi’s Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony
Today marks one year since Ali and Kiana, the children of Narges Mohammadi, accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on her behalf while she remained imprisoned.
We at the Narges Foundation extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Norwegian Nobel Committee for once again honoring Narges Mohammadi in this year’s official ceremony speech and addressing her ongoing situation.
Narges is currently out of prison on a 21-day temporary leave and must return in 15 days. Just before this year’s ceremony, she had the long-awaited opportunity to meet with the Nobel Committee—one year after being awarded the prize.
During today’s ceremony, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, made an unprecedented gesture by highlighting Narges Mohammadi in his official speech:
“In the committee room of the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo hang the portraits of every Nobel Peace Prize laureate since 1901. Two of these portraits are of Ales Bialiatski and Narges Mohammadi, laureates of 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Both are serving long prison sentences for their peaceful advocacy of human rights—the very work that earned them the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee calls upon the Iranian and Belarusian authorities to release them immediately, permanently, and unconditionally.
Their portraits, along with those of all other laureates, serve as a reminder that injustice, brutality, and war persist—but also that societies can change for the better.
These portraits tell the story of courageous individuals who never give up in the struggle for positive change.”
We also hold Ales Bialiatski in our thoughts, recognizing his unwavering courage and hoping for his freedom.
Additionally, we wholeheartedly congratulate this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Nihon Hidankyo (Hibakusha), whose tireless efforts and powerful testimonies remind the world why nuclear weapons must never be used again.
امروز اولین سالگرد مراسم جایزه صلح نوبل است؛ مراسمی که در آن علی و کیانا، فرزندان نرگس محمدی، جایزه را به نمایندگی از مادرشان دریافت کردند، چرا که او در آن زمان در زندان بود.
