We, a Group of Narges Mohammadi’s cellmates in Evin Prison’s Women’s Ward, Object to the Prison’s Refusal to Transfer Her to the Hospital Despite Her Serious Health Conditions and Express Our Deep Concern for Her Well-Being.
On March 19, 2024, Narges was transferred to the hospital due to chest pain and admitted to the ICU. As per her doctor’s orders, she was supposed to be sent back for an angiography in June. However, the prison delayed her transfer for a month and a half, and it was only on July 8 that she was sent to the hospital again. During this visit, doctors discovered a mass in her breast, performed a biopsy, and postponed the angiography due to concerns about the need for urgent surgery. The doctor ordered her to be transferred to the hospital again in September for the angiography.
During this time, in addition to three letters from the hospital specialist, the prison’s trusted physician also examined her and demanded her emergency transfer to the hospital. The head of the Evin prison medical clinic repeatedly reminded prison officials of the urgent need for her transfer, but the prison refused, citing orders from higher authorities. In recent days, Narges has again gone to the prison clinic due to chest pain, and her electrocardiogram showed changes. According to the Evin doctor, combined with her fluctuating blood pressure, this indicates her condition is high-risk.
In addition to the emergency angiography, in November 2023, Narges suddenly suffered from severe back pain. She was transferred to the hospital, where the doctor ordered at least ten sessions of physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment, but the prison has never arranged for her to receive this treatment.
In fact, every time the prison has agreed to transfer Narges Mohammadi to the hospital, it has been after multiple protests from her fellow inmates. This time, Narges was supposed to be sent to the hospital in September for the angiography, but despite the urgency of the situation and the numerous protests from fellow inmates and other women prisoners, the prison still hasn’t transferred her. Each time promises were made; they were ultimately broken on the morning of the scheduled transfer.
We are only asking for medical attention and for our fellow inmate to be transferred for treatment—a legal demand that the prison is obligated to fulfill. Isn’t the prison responsible for ensuring the health of its inmates? Why must we repeatedly resort to various methods of protest to have Narges and other prisoners sent for medical treatment?
Being imprisoned already means living with immense anxiety and hardship. Currently, the women’s ward is the most overcrowded it has been in recent years. In such conditions, instead of fulfilling its basic legal duties, such as hospital transfers, the prison has refused to act, further adding to the anxiety and difficulty of our imprisonment during this time.

Evin Prison – Women’s Ward
ما جمعی از زنان هم‌بندی نرگس محمدی در بند نسوان اوین نسبت به امتناع زندان در اعزام او به بیمارستان که به بیماری‌های جدی و متعدد مبتلا است، اعتراض داشته و نگران سلامتی او هستیم.
نرگس محمدی ۲۹ اسفند ۱۴۰۲ به علت درد در ناحیه‌ی سینه به بیمارستان اعزام و به بخش ICU منتقل شد.
به دستور پزشک او باید خرداد ماه برای عمل آنژیو بار دیگر به بیمارستان اعزام می‌شد. زندان پس از یک ماه و نیم تأخیر یعنی ۱۸ تیر ماه بار دیگر او را به بیمارستان اعزام کرد. در این اعزام پزشکان متوجه توده‌ای در سینه‌ی او شدند و اقدام به بایوبسی کرده و به دلیل نگرانی از نیاز فوری به عمل جراحی، عمل آنژیو را به تعویق انداختند.
بنا به دستور پزشک او باید شهریور ماه برای عمل آنژیو به بیمارستان اعزام می‌شد.
در این مدت علاوه بر ۳ نامه از سوی پزشک متخصص بیمارستان، پزشک معتمد زندان نیز او را معاینه کرده و خواهان اعزام اورژانسی او به بیمارستان شد. رئیس بهداری اوین نیز ضرورت اعزام اورژانسی او به بیمارستان را به مسئولان زندان بارها متذکر شده، اما زندان از اعزام نرگس امتناع کرده و دلیل آن را دستور نهادهای بالادستی عنوان می‌کند. نرگس در چند روز گذشته نیز به دلیل درد در قفسه سینه به بهداری مراجعه کرده و نوار قلب او تغییراتی را نشان داده که به گفته‌ی پزشک اوین همراه با نوسان فشار خون و شرایط پرریسک سلامتی اوست.
گذشته از اورژانسی بودن عمل آنژیو، آبان ماه ۱۴۰۲ نرگس ناگهان دچار درد شدید در کمر شد، که به بیمارستان اعزام شد و طبق دستور پزشک باید حداقل ۱۰ جلسه فیزیوتراپی و کایروپراکتیک برای او انجام می‌شد، که زندان هیچ گاه در این زمینه او را برای درمان اعزام نکرد.
در واقع تا کنون هر بار که زندان حاضر به اعزام نرگس محمدی به بیمارستان شده، پس از اعتراض‌های متعدد همبندیان او بوده است. این بار هم نرگس از شهریور ماه باید برای انجام عمل آنژیو به بیمارستان اعزام می‌شد، اما این بار با وجود اورژانسی بودن شرایط و اعتراض‌های متعدد همبندیان و زنان زندانی همچنان زندان اقدام به اعزام او نکرده و هر بار که وعده‌هایی داده شده، در نهایت صبح روز اعزام، از انجام آن سر باز زده‌است.
ما تنها خواهان رسیدگی پزشکی و اعزام هم‌بندی خود برای درمان هستیم. خواسته‌ای قانونی که زندان وظیفه انجام آن را برعهده دارد. مگر نه اینکه زندان مسئول رسیدگی به سلامت زندانی است؟ چرا ما هر بار برای اعزام نرگس و گاه حتی دیگر زندانیان باید به روش‌های متعدد به زندان اعتراض خود را اعلام کنیم؟
زندانی بودن خود به معنای زندگی در اضطراب و دشواری بسیار است و بند نسوان در حال حاضر پرجمعیت‌ترین دوران خود در سال‌های اخیر را سپری می‌کند و زندان در چنین شرایطی به جای رسیدگی بیشتر از ابتدایی‌ترین وظایف قانونی خود، چون اعزام به بیمارستان سر باز زده و بر اضطراب و دشواری حبس ما در این دوران می‌افزاید.
