Sisters Worldwide, Raise Your Voices Against Gender Apartheid in Iran and Afghanistan
Narges Mohammadi’s letter from Evin Prison was read at the Women’s Rights Conference in Barcelona, by a collective of women’s rights activists and feminists.
Two years have passed since Mahsa (Jina) Amini was killed by Iran’s morality police. The “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement was not an unexpected incident or a sudden reaction; it is part of the continuity of Iran’s social movements, with a high potential to bring about profound changes in Iranian society—changes aimed toward the realization of democracy, freedom, and equality.
This movement has created and expanded the spaces for collective action and protest, dismantling the domains of governmental authority and making the “power of protest” a tangible and believable reality for the general public. The continued protests by women and their strength in defiance have inspired many segments of society, as the country is now witnessing such actions across its vast landscape.
Protests & resistance in various forms & levels are ongoing in Iran, & women have not taken a step back.
I call on women worldwide, our sisters to raise their voices for the liberation of women in Iran and Afghanistan from the oppression of gender apartheid.
By bringing the issue of gender apartheid to the forefront of the media, intellectuals, politicians, and their governments within the United Nations can expose the ugly face of this crime against humanity.
As long as world leaders, international institutions, the United Nations, and powerful politicians remain indifferent to gender apartheid in countries ruled by oppressive and outdated religious regimes like the Taliban and the Islamic Republic, the people of these nations will continue to endure excruciating suffering and irreversible pain that will be etched in human history.
We have decided to win and overcome religious tyranny.
Although victory is not easy, be assured that it is certain.

پیام نرگس محمدی از زندان اوین در نشست زنان در بارسلون به مناسبت دومین سالگرد کشته شدن مهسا امینی خوانده شد.
بسیار مفتخرم که برای نشستِ زنان در سالگرد جنبشِ با شکوه “زن، زندگی، آزادی” پیام می‌فرستم. گرچه این پیام را از پشتِ میله‌های زندان می‌فرستم، اما سرشار از حسِ آزادی و رهایی هستم.
دو سال از کشته شدن مهسا ـ ژینا امینی به دست نیروهای امر به معروفِ حکومتی می‌گذرد. جنبشِ “زن، زندگی، آزادی” حادثه‌ای غیرمترقبه و عکس‌العملی ناگهانی نبوده و جنبشی در تداومِ جنبش‌های اجتماعی مردم ایران به شمار می‌آید که از توانِ بالایی برای ایجاد تغییراتِ عمیق در جامعه‌ی ایران برخوردار است. تغییراتی که رو به سوی تحقق دموکراسی، آزادی و برابری دارد. این جنبش حوزه‌های کنشِ جمعی و اعتراضی را خلق و وسعت بخشیده که حوزه‌های اقتدارِ حکومت را فرو ریخته و “اقتدار معترض” را به امری واقعی و باورپذیر برای عمومِ مردم تبدیل کرده است. تداوم اعتراضاتِ زنان و قدرتِ سرپیچیِ آن‌ها الهام‌بخشِ بسیاری از اقشار مردمی است که این روزها جامعه شاهد وقوعِ آن‌ها در اقصی‌نقاط کشور است.
اعتراضات و مقاومت در اشکال و سطوحِ مختلف در ایران در جریان است و زنان قدمی پا پس نکشیده‌اند.
من از زنانِ سراسر جهان، خواهرانمان در این نشست‌ها و گردهمایی‌ها تقاضا دارم برای رهاییِ زنان ایران و افغانستان از آپارتاید جنسیتی، صدایِ قدرتمند و رسای ما باشند. با کشاندنِ بحثِ آپارتاید جنسیتی به سطح رسانه‌ها، اندیشمندان، سیاستمداران و دولت‌های عضوشان در سازمان ملل متحد، پرده از چهره‌ی کریه این جنایت‌ِ ضدبشری بردارند. مادامی که جهان و نهادهای بین‌المللی و سازمان ملل و قدرتمندان و سیاستمدارانِ در اقصی نقاطِ جهان نسبت به آپارتاید جنسیتی در کشورهایی با حکومت‌های دینی استبدادی و عقب‌مانده چون طالبان و جمهوری اسلامی بی‌اعتنا باشند. مردمانِ این سرزمین برای رسیدن به دموکراسی رنج‌های جانکاه و دردهایِ التیام‌ناپذیری را که تاریخِ بشریت به خاطر خواهد سپرد، متحمل خواهند شد.
ما اراده کرده‌ایم که پیروز شویم و بر استبداد دینی فائق آییم.
پیروزیِ ما گرچه سهل نیست، اما یقین بدانید قطعی است.
