Demanding a Public Trial for Narges Mohammadi, a Trial Where Witnesses Can Narrate and People Can Judge
Sexual assault and harassment, in any form, can be used as a devastating tool against anyone deemed an ‘other’ by certain political regimes, as contemporary Iranian history testifies to such horrific use. In the 1980s and during the Kahrizak tragedy, even some responsible officials of the Islamic Republic at the time admitted to the sexual abuse of prisoners and detainees.
On the other hand, it has never been seen that the commanders and perpetrators of such human tragedies are tried before the Iranian nation, while the narrators and exposers of sexual harassment have always been tried and punished. The punishment of the narrators itself indicates a will to silence all those who are victims and survivors of this type of repression, and certainly, an unknown number have not spoken out for this very reason. It also indicates the lack of independence of the judiciary system in the Islamic Republic.
Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist, has been sentenced three times in court solely for narrating harassment, and now for the fourth time, she is being tried again on June 8, 2024, for the same reason.
We believe that sexual assault, rape, and harassment are tools of torture, threats, and coerced confessions in the hands of a government trying to push back popular protest movements and confine the protesters to their homes.
We will continue narrating, seeking justice, and supporting the victims.

شاهدان روایت کنند و مردم قضاوت
تجاوز و تعرض جنسی به هرگونه آن می‌تواند به عنوان ابزاری ویرانگر علیه هر آن کس که توسط برخی رژیم های سیاسی، دیگری تلقی می‌شود، مورد استفاده قرار بگیرد. چنانکه تاریخ معاصر ایران نیز بر چنین استفاده هولناکی شهادت می‌دهد. در دهه ۶۰ و در فاجعه کهریزک حتی برخی مقامات مسئول وقت جمهوری اسلامی نیز به آزار جنسی زندانیان و بازداشت‌شدگان اقرار کرده‌اند.
از سویی هیچگاه دیده نشده آمران و عاملان چنین فجایع انسانی در پیشگاه ملت ایران محاکمه شوند. درحالی که روایتگران و افشاکنندگان آزار جنسی همواره محاکمه و مجازات شده‌اند. مجازات روایتگران خود نشان از اراده برای به سکوت کشاندن همه کسانی دارد که آسیب‌دیدگان و بازماندگان اینگونه از سرکوب هستند و قطعا تعداد نامعلومی به همین دلیل لب به سخن نگشوده‌اند. همین طور نشان دهنده عدم استقلال سیستم قضایی در جمهوری اسلامی است.
نرگس محمدی، فعال حقوق بشر تا کنون سه بار تنها برای روایتگری آزار در دادگاه محکوم شده است و اکنون چهارمین بار است که به همین دلیل در ۱۹ خرداد ۱۴۰۳ بار دیگر محاکمه می‌شود.
ما بر این باوریم که تعرض، تجاوز و اذیت و آزار جنسی ابزار شکنجه، تهدید و اعتراف گیری در دست حکومتی است که سعی در عقب راندن جنبش های اعتراضی مردمی و خانه نشین کردن معترضان دارد.
ما به روایتگری، دادخواهی و حمایت از آسیب دیدگان ادامه خواهیم داد.
ما تعرض و آزار جنسی را متوقف خواهیم کرد.
