“I wish I had known as a young girl growing up in rural Iraq that women like Narges Mohammadi existed. The men in charge of my country, like so many leaders around the world, tried to convince women and girls that no one fought for us, that our lives were less important, that protests were useless, and that imprisonment—the punishment for any defiance—meant silence. Narges proves the opposite is true. Her life is devoted to fighting the oppression of women, and her voice is strong and loud, even behind bars. When, in December, she received the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, her children accepted the award on her behalf. Narges had won it from prison.

For decades, Narges has helped Iranian women gather the courage to protest against injustice. Her influence cannot be stifled by jail, nor can it be confined to one country. She represents the fight for justice no matter the cost, and her bravery is the best argument against any leader, anywhere in the world, who would let a woman think that it’s better to stay quiet.”

نرگس محمدی برنده جایزه نوبل صلح، در لیست ۱۰۰ چهره تاثیر گزار سال ۲۰۲۴ مجله تایمز قرار گرفته است.

متن معرفی نرگس محمدی و دلیل انتخاب او به عنوان یک زن تاثیر گزار در جهان را نادیا مراد که خود برنده جایزه صلح نوبل است نوشته است که در ادامه به طور کامل می خوانید:

“کاش وقتی که کودکی در روستاهای عراق بودم، می‌دانستم که زنانی مانند نرگس محمدی وجود دارند. مردانی که در کشورمن حکومت می کنند، همانطور که رهبران زیادی در سراسر جهان این کار را می‌کنند، سعی کردند زنان و دختران را متقاعد کنند که هیچ کس برای حقوق ما زنان نمی‌جنگد ، که زندگی‌های ما به عنوان زن کم اهمیت‌ است، که اعتراضات ما بی‌فایده‌اند، و اینکه زندانی شدن – مجازات هر نافرمانی – به معنای سکوت است. نرگس اثبات می‌کند که برعکس این موضوع صحیح است. زندگی‌اش به مبارزه با ستم به زنان اختصاص داده شده، و صدایش قوی و بلند است، حتی پشت میله‌های زندان. وقتی که در دسامبر، جایزه صلح نوبل ۲۰۲۳ را دریافت کرد، فرزندانش جایزه را به نیابت از او دریافت کردند. نرگس این جایزه را از زندان برده بود.

دهه‌ها است که نرگس به زنان ایرانی کمک کرده تا شهامت مبارزه با بی‌عدالتی را داشته باشند. نفوذ و تأثیر او با زندان خاموش نمی‌شود و در محدوده یک کشور باقی نمی‌ماند
