Pınar Selek, Women’s Rights Activist and Sociologist, Urges Immediate Action to Save Narges Mohammadi
21th October 2024 – Pınar Selek, a renowned women’s rights activist, sociologist, and writer from Turkey, who has herself endured imprisonment, has issued a passionate call for immediate action to save the life of Narges Mohammadi. Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been denied medical care for nearly eight weeks while imprisoned in Iran, leaving her life in critical danger.
In a video message published on her Twitter account, Selek urged everyone to act without delay:
“Friends, Narges Mohammadi’s life is in danger. Narges is suffering in prison… She hasn’t been taken to the hospital for almost eight weeks… Friends, please let’s write letters to the ambassadors of Iran; social media activity is not enough. Let’s take action right now before something bad happens. Tomorrow may be too late. Thank you.”
Tomorrow will mark eight weeks since Narges Mohammadi was last denied access to urgent medical treatment, as her health continues to deteriorate under the custody of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Prison authorities have refused to transfer her to a hospital, putting her life at extreme risk.
