Fourth Honorary Citizenship in France for Narges Mohammadi: Vire Normandie Honors the Nobel Laureate’s Fight for Human Rights

The Narges Foundation is proud to announce that Narges Mohammadi, 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, will be awarded honorary citizenship by the city of Vire, Normandy (Calvados), France, on May 24, 2025, in recognition of her tireless work in defense of human rights.
This honor follows a campaign by Group 295, the Vire branch of Amnesty International, which advocated for the city to bestow this recognition. Alain Bihel, secretary of the local Amnesty International group, warmly welcomed the decision, expressing his deep admiration for Mohammadi’s ongoing efforts. “It’s not much compared to the Nobel Prize, but it helps to raise awareness about her situation and show our support,” he said.
Despite facing imprisonment and harsh conditions, Narges Mohammadi continues her advocacy from within prison walls. Recently, she was permitted brief medical treatment outside of prison, offering her a rare opportunity to rest at home. “She campaigns every day, even from prison,” added Bihel, emphasizing the group’s unwavering hope to see her freed.
Vire Normandie becomes the fourth city in France to honor Narges Mohammadi with honorary citizenship, further amplifying international calls for her release and recognizing her extraordinary courage and commitment to human rights.

بنیاد نرگس با افتخار اعلام می‌کند که نرگس محمدی، برنده جایزه صلح نوبل ۲۰۲۳، در تاریخ ۲۴ مه ۲۰۲۵ به‌عنوان شهروند افتخاری شهر ویر در نرماندی فرانسه معرفی خواهد شد.
این افتخار در پی درخواست گروه ۲۹۵ عفو بین‌الملل در ویر و به پاس تلاش‌های بی‌وقفه او در دفاع از حقوق بشر اعطا می‌شود.
آلن بی‌هل، دبیر گروه محلی عفو بین‌الملل، با استقبال از این تصمیم گفت: «این اقدام شاید در مقایسه با جایزه نوبل بزرگ نباشد، اما به افزایش آگاهی درباره وضعیت او کمک می‌کند و نشانه‌ای از حمایت ماست.»
نرگس محمدی، با وجود تحمل شرایط سخت زندان، همچنان به فعالیت‌های خود ادامه می‌دهد. او اخیراً برای درمان پزشکی به‌طور موقت از زندان خارج شد و فرصتی برای استراحت در خانه یافت. بی‌هل افزود: «او حتی در زندان نیز هر روز به مبارزه ادامه می‌دهد.»
شهر ویر نرماندی چهارمین شهر در فرانسه است که به نرگس محمدی شهروندی افتخاری اعطا می‌کند، اقدامی که بر درخواست‌های بین‌المللی برای آزادی او تأکید می‌کند و شجاعت و تعهد بی‌نظیر او به حقوق بشر را به رسمیت می‌شناسد.
