Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Narges Mohammadi Sends Letter to 24-Hour Live Event in Solidarity with the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Movement

Jailed human rights defender and 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Narges Mohammadi, has sent a powerful statement to the 24-hour LIVE event supporting the No to Execution Tuesdays movement from her prison cell in Iran.

 

In her message, Mohammadi underscores the critical need for global action:
“We need loud voices from around the world to abolish the death penalty.”

 

She calls for unwavering solidarity from the international human rights community, emphasizing the importance of media attention in exposing the Iranian regime’s continued executions:

 

“We expect global and impactful solidarity from human rights circles to support the abolitionist movement in Iran. We look to international media to prevent the erasure of those executed, lost in the cold and darkness behind the black walls of the Islamic Republic’s prisons. We aim to create a powerful global movement to stop these countless executions.”

 

Narges Mohammadi, who remains imprisoned in Evin Prison, is herself one of the hunger strikers in the No to Execution Tuesdays movement. Despite her imprisonment, she continues to be a fearless advocate for the abolition of the death penalty in Iran, lending her voice to a cause that demands urgent international attention.

 

The full text of Narges Mohammadi’s letter, sent from inside Evin Prison, is below:

 

“Dear Organizers of the No to Executions Conference,

The dictatorship, in the loud noise of chaos and the beating of war drums, has intensified its repression and executions. Every day passes with the fear of war, terror of executions, and imprisonment.

The number of executions is no longer announced annually but monthly, as the horrific wheel of executions spins with terrifying speed. As one body is lowered from the noose, another person is raised to the gallows. We need loud voices from across the world to say No to Executions. We expect global and impactful support from human rights circles to stand with those opposing executions in Iran. We look forward to the assistance of influential media worldwide to prevent the erasure of those executed, lost in the darkness of the nights and behind the cold, black walls of the Islamic Republic’s prisons, and to create a powerful global movement to stop the countless executions.

We call for support to halt executions.

From behind the prison bars, in solidarity with all the striking prisoners, I will join the No to Executions Tuesdays campaign and go on a hunger strike on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

I sincerely thank the organizers of this conference and hope that through persistence, resistance, and solidarity, we can stop the execution machine.”

در برنامه زنده” ۲۴ ساعت برای حمایت از«سه شنبه های نه به اعدام» در زندانهای ایران” نامه نرگس محمدی قرائت شد.”

‏ نرگس محمدی اعلام کرد زندانیان و اعتصاب کنندگان در روزهای سه شنبه چشم به یاری رسانه های جهانی در محو اعدام دارند. او به نمایندگی از همبندیان و سایر زندانیان خواستار مبارزه قدرتمند جهانی جهت توقف اعدام از پشت میله های زندان شد. همچنین اعلام کرد که امروز سه شنبه ۱۷ مهرماه همچون سایر یاران خود در زندان اعتصاب غذا خواهد کرد.

‏او از برگزارکنندگان این برنامه تشکر کرد و آرزوی پیگیری و مقاومت نمود.

این برنامه ازسوی «سازمان حقوق بشر ایران» و «کارزار جهانی نه به اعدام در ایران» و با مشارکت طیف وسیعی از نهادها و کنشگران اجتماعی ایرانی و بین‌المللی مخالف اعدام از سه‌شنبه ۱۷ مهر (۸ اکتبر)، ساعت ۱۲ به‌وقت اروپای مرکزی (۱۳:۳۰ ایران) تا ظهر چهارشنبه ۱۸ مهر ( ۹ اکتبر) ادامه دارد.

“برگزارکنندگان محترم نشست نه به اعدام

استبداد در بلندیِ صدایِ هیاهو و طبلِ جنگ، سرکوب و اعدام را شدت بخشیده‌است. هر روز با بیم جنگ و وحشتِ اعدام و زندان می‌گذارد.

آمارِ اعدام نه سالانه که در شتابِ هولناکِ چرخِ اعدام، ماهانه اعلام می‌شود. پیکری از طناب پایین نکشیده، انسانی بالای دار می‌رود. ما به صدایی بلند از سراسر جهان برای نه – به اعدام نیاز داریم. ما انتظار حمایتی جهانی و تأثیرگذار از سوی محافل حقوق بشری برای حمایت از مخالفانِ اعدام در ایران داریم. ما چشم به راهِ یاری رسانه‌های تأثیرگذار در سراسر جهان هستیم تا از محو تصویر اعدامیان در سیاهی شب‌ها و پشتِ دیوارهای سرد و سیاهِ زندان‌های جمهوری اسلامی، تصویری از مبارزه‌ی قدرتمند جهانی برای توقف اعدامِ پرشمار اعدامیان خلق نماییم.
ما برای توقف اعدام یاری می‌طلبیم.

از پشتِ میله‌های زندان، همگام و هم‌صدا با همه‌ی زندانیان اعتصاب‌کننده در کارزارِ سه‌شنبه‌های نه به اعدام، روز سه‌شنبه ۱۷ مهرماه در اعتصاب غذا خواهم بود .

از برگزارکنندگان این نشست صمیمانه سپاسگزارم و امیدوارم با پی گیری و مقاومت و همبستگی بتوانیم ماشین اعدام را متوقف کنیم.”
