The Islamic Republic must answer for Seyyed Mohammad Mir-Mousavi’s murder under torture.
The Islamic Republic must be held accountable for the murder of Seyyed Mohammad Mir-Mousavi under the brutal torture of its agents. How shameless is it for Islamic Republic to call the killing of an innocent man under torture an "exception" and to describe the systematic, deadly torture in detentions as merely the "loss of control of emotions and anger of the agents" and "excitement caused by friction"? Is this the same government that executed a young protester of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement for placing a garbage bin in the middle of the street as a form of civil protest, and now

Narges Mohammadi on the 10th Year of Separation from Her Twin Children
In the arena of struggle, resistance, and life, the imprisoned mother is a symbol of "defiance." On the morning of July 16th, 2015, within the walls of unending suffering, on the bottom bunk in room two, in the women’s political ward of Evin Prison in Tehran, I stayed awake through the night with open eyes, gazing into the depths of the colorless galaxy. My heart pounded intensely like the eruption of volcanic lava, and my hands were as cold as the winter chill of the mountains. I stared at the iron ceiling of the bunk bed that confined my vision to
We Stand with All Those Threatened by the Death Sentence
Letter from 16 Woman Political Prisoners in Evin Prison – Iran : We Stand with All Those Threatened by the Death Sentence and Demand a Halt to Executions 9th July 2024 Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labor activist, after seven months of temporary detention, enduring torture and interrogation in various cities' detention centers, has been sentenced to death in a baseless and threadbare scenario. New sentence for Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi highlights Iran’s free expression crisis

We demand an end to Mohammadi’s unjust imprisonment now and for good” said Romana Cacchioli, Executive Director of PEN International. 21 June 2024: PEN International is outraged by the news of another retaliatory sentence against writer, human rights defender, and Nobel Peace laureate Narges Mohammadi. 10 Political Prisoners Express Solidarity with the Bahai Community in Iran Facing Intense Pressure
Our differences in political views and beliefs have never, do not, and will never obstruct our support for human rights. Silence in the face of oppression only emboldens the regime, making its actions less costly and leading to repeated and intensified abuses. Our Baha'i compatriots have been deprived of all social rights for decades under tyranny. In the 1980s, with the catastrophic elimination of political opponents and dissidents, nearly three hundred of our Baha'i compatriots were disappeared, went missing, or were executed by the government, and thousands more were deprived of the most basic social rights and driven from their homes. Immediate Action Needed: Critical Health Risks for Pregnant Prisoner in Evin
We are worried about Rezvaneh Khan-Beigi, who is pregnant and not in good condition. The Islamic Republic embodies cruelty & crime in practice. The women's ward of Evin Prison is experiencing conditions not seen in recent years. The number of incoming prisoners is so high that the release of those with convertible sentences cannot reduce the population below 65. All rooms and beds are full. The number of critically ill and incurable patients is so high that the ward's capacity to help is insufficient. In recent months, two people who were released from prison based on medical examiner’s assessment and a ruling of

Narrative as Resistance: Iranian Feminists Protest Narges Mohammadi’s Trial
Narrative as Resistance: A Statement by Civil Society Activists and Feminists Protesting the new Trial of Narges Mohammadi and Supporting the Women's Ward in Evin Prison. The suppression of women in the home, on the streets, in detention centers, prisons, and beyond has always been intertwined with sexual assault and harassment. These acts serve as tools for intimidation, additional suppression, and the elimination of women from social and political spheres. In response to these attacks, narrating and testifying about the violence and abuse that occurs has always been a way to resist. This method not only exposes the violent identity of
Demanding a Public Trial for Narges Mohammadi, a Trial Where Witnesses Can Narrate and People Can Judge
Sexual assault and harassment, in any form, can be used as a devastating tool against anyone deemed an 'other' by certain political regimes, as contemporary Iranian history testifies to such horrific use. In the 1980s and during the Kahrizak tragedy, even some responsible officials of the Islamic Republic at the time admitted to the sexual abuse of prisoners and detainees. On the other hand, it has never been seen that the commanders and perpetrators of such human tragedies are tried before the Iranian nation, while the narrators and exposers of sexual harassment have always been tried and punished. The punishment of

A protesting woman in the street is not only an expression but also a grand idea based on equality and freedom
Narges Mohammadi's message for the 2024 Freedom of Expression Conference in May 2024 was read by her chidren Ali and Kiana Rahmani. Writing about freedom of expression in a country where the government prioritizes restricting freedom of speech as its most crucial duty, where the regime justifies its deceptive and manipulative actions by exploiting people’s religious, traditional, and societal beliefs and values, and where it denies the truth in its international engagements while deceiving the global community, is undeniably daunting and alarming. When discussing the deprivation of freedom of speech by a regime, we confront the clear oppression and conflict against the
Raisi’s Memorial Day at the UN: A Grim Commemoration
The memorial day for Raisi at the United Nations is in reality a day commemorating gallows, executions, and mass killings against the people of Iran. When the governments of the world place a flagrant violator of human rights and a butcher in the history of Iran, who until his death was a tool of suppressing a nation, in a position as if they have lost a peace-loving and democratic person, one should no longer expect that dictators, oppressors, human rights violators, torturers, and death-bringing executioners will not emerge elsewhere in the world. For they see and are assured that on their

World Labor Day Ceremony Held in the Women’s Ward of Evin Prison
A three-day ceremony was held in the women's ward of Evin Prison to commemorate World Labor Day. This event was the result of several days of collective work by a significant number of prisoners. On the first day, a "Worker's Gallery" was set up. Handwritten posters were affixed to the walls. Some of these posters contained points from labor law, reminding readers of their rights. The rest of the posters highlighted some of the milestones of the labor movement in Iran over the past hundred years. A collage was also created using textual and visual content from old newspapers, depicting the
Happy World Press Freedom Day to journalists around the globe, especially those imprisoned, including in Iran.
The women's ward at Evin Prison has witnessed the bravery of many journalists, and currently houses two such individuals. Vida Rabbani, a journalist and member of the Tehran Journalists' Association, was first detained in December 2019 for reporting on a protest at Amir Kabir University against the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752. She was released a few hours later. On the anniversary of the November massacre and the downing of the same Ukrainian plane a year later, Rabbani was arrested again. She spent a month in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention center, known as "209," where she was interrogated.
Over the Years: 21 Women Over 60 and 4 Above 70 Imprisoned in Evin Prison, Symbols of Resistance and State Cruelty
The presence of more than 20 political and ideological female prisoners over the age of 60 in Evin prison signifies the determination of women for liberation, as well as the cruelty and wickedness of the Islamic Republic. In the women's ward of Evin, four resilient women over the age of 70 endure imprisonment for human rights. I write this so that the beloved people of Iran, especially the proud young people and the brave and daring girls of Iran, are aware and encouraged that as long as such mothers stand in the ranks of fighters, tyranny will fail and freedom will
A message from Narges Mohammadi for Nika Shakarami
Our Bravest, Nika You embody the strength of protest, and the crimes of the Islamic Republic symbolize its utter disgrace. How disgraceful is the Islamic Republic, a government that arrests, imprisons, and suppresses women for their hair, while subjecting them to sexual assault. Each time I recall the moments you suffered at the hands of savage security agents, I am moved by your courage, your belief in freedom, and your determination to fight until your last breath. These thoughts stir a deep sense of resistance within me. They also leave me profoundly saddened and angered by the depravity, wickedness, and malice of a

Our silence today dictates the fate of each of us tomorrow. The shameless issuance of a death sentence for Toomaj Salehi, a committed artist and human rights activist, using a notorious process in the courts of the regime, has once again exposed the anti-human nature and the depth of corruption of this government. These days, the Islamic republic, intoxicated by the illusion of external authority, is desperate for internal power and spares no effort. On one hand, by deploying troops, it has turned the streets into a battleground against the women of Iran who seek freedom, and on the other hand, in

Narges Mohammadi : We Must Stop This War Against Women in Iran
Informed people of Iran, I am Narges Mohammadi. You are hearing my voice from Evin Prison. My phone card has been disconnected for nearly 5 months, & I am sending this message out using Sepideh Gholian’s phone card. An hour ago, "Dina Ghalibaf," entered the women's ward of Evin Prison with bruises & experience of sexual abuse. For years, we have witnessed many women who have endured assault, abuse, and beatings by government agents; however, today the Islamic Republic, not from a position of strength but out of desperation, has dragged a full-scale war against all women to every street in Iran.
