Narges Mohammadi Will Not Participate in Iran’s Elections

The Narges Mohammadi Foundation announces that Narges Mohammadi, currently imprisoned in Evin Prison, has issued a statement regarding the upcoming elections in Iran. Below is the full text of her statement:

I will not participate in the illegal elections of the oppressive and illegitimate government.

How can you, while holding a sword, gallows, weapons, and prisons against the people with one hand, place a ballot box in front of the same people with the other hand, and deceitfully and falsely call them to the polls?

The only purpose of holding elections for a regime that believes in repression, terror, and violence as the sole means to maintain power is not to uphold democracy and the rights of the people, but to consolidate power and tyranny. Such elections will not bring legitimacy to the Islamic Republic.

در انتخابات غیر قانونی حکومت سرگوبگر و نامشروع شرکت نخواهم کرد.

چطور میتوانید در حالی که با یک دست تیغ و دار و اسلحه و زندان را علیه مردم گرفته اید، با دستی دیگر صندوق رأی را پیش روی همان مردم بگذارید و با زبانی فریبکار و دروغ پرداز آنها را به پای صندوق رأی فرا خوانید؟

یگانه آماج برگزاری انتخابات برای رژیمی که به سرکوب، وحشت و خشونت به عنوان یگانه نگهدار قدرت باور دارد، نه پاسداشت دموکراسی و حقوق مردم ، بلکه تحکیم قدرت و استبداد است. چنین انتخابات هایی برای جمهوری اسلامی مشروعیت نخواهد آورد.
