Medical Neglect Kills Again – The Death of Political Prisoner Somayeh Rashidi
The Narges Foundation expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic passing of Somayeh Rashidi, a political prisoner held in Qarchak Prison, who lost her life after being denied medical care and transferred too late to Mofatteh Hospital in Varamin, following a severe deterioration of her health.
According to previous reports by Hengaw, Ms. Rashidi had long been suffering from serious health issues inside prison. Instead of receiving effective medical treatment, prison doctors dismissed her condition as “malingering” and prescribed only sedatives and psychiatric medication. This deliberate neglect caused her health to worsen, ultimately leading to severe seizures and her untimely death.
This devastating loss of Somayeh Rashidi is not an accident but the result of a systematic policy of neglect and cruelty inside Iranian prisons. As Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi explained years ago:
“They apply so much pressure, they delay so much, until death finally comes for the prisoner.”
“This system creates the very conditions and opportunities for death to reach a person , it deliberately makes it possible for you to die.”
Somayeh Rashidi’s death is yet another painful example of this systematic
We mourn this devastating loss and stand in solidarity with her family, friends, and all those who continue to endure the consequences of systemic injustice and medical neglect in Iranian prisons.
