Family Voices to UNGA 79th: Hamidreza and Taghi Rahmani Stand Together for Narges Mohammadi and All Political Prisoners

Islamic Republic Gov Hopes to eliminate Narges Mohammadi by Denying Medical Care, Says her Family

“Narges Mohammadi Denied Medical Care for almost Eight Weeks, is intentional” says Hamidreza Mohammadi Narges’s brother.

Tomorrow marks 8 weeks since the Islamic Republic of Iran has denied Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi access to urgent medical care, leaving her life in severe jeopardy. Despite her rapidly declining health, prison authorities continue to refuse her transfer to a hospital.

In a recent video message, Hamidreza Mohammadi, Narges’s brother, called for her immediate transfer to receive the angiography surgery she urgently requires. He emphasized that this denial of care is not an oversight, but a deliberate tactic by the government to silence her without assuming responsibility.

“The Islamic Republic government is intentionally withholding the medical treatment my sister needs, hoping to eliminate her while avoiding accountability,” says Hamidreza. He further stressed, “Eight weeks without critical care is unacceptable. This is no accident—it’s calculated. They delay medical treatment, waiting for something serious to happen, so they can claim, ‘We were going to take her to the hospital, but unfortunately, it was too late.’ This is what they’ve done with other prisoners.”

Narges herself has also explained this method while she was out of prison for a very short time in 2021 You can watch the full video here, where Narges Mohammadi explains how the Islamic Republic eliminates prisoners by deliberately delaying the urgent medical care they need, without providing any evidence or taking responsibility.

“We’ve had many cases where prisoners have lost their lives, & authorities later claimed it was due to a heart attack or even suicide. This system sets the stage for death, applying relentless pressure on prisoners, waiting patiently until death finally claims them.” Says Narges Mohammadi in this video.

Systematic Neglect and Denial of Responsibility

Prison authorities themselves have admitted in a private conversation with Narges Mohammadi that they no longer have control over Narges’s transfer to the hospital, stating it is considered a “high-security matter” dictated by higher security sources. On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the authorities once again refused to transfer Narges to the hospital Despite her family and lawyers arranging multiple medical appointments, the authorities have repeatedly blocked her from leaving.

Just one week ago, an external doctor visiting the prison informed Narges that she urgently needs an angiography. He provided a signed, stamped letter to prison officials, emphasizing the critical nature of her transfer.

Alarming Medical Condition Ignored

Narges’s CT angiography report from March 18, 2024, confirms a dangerous recurrence of a blockage in the main artery of her heart, which was previously stented in 2021 due to a 75% blockage. Despite numerous appeals for re-angiography by her medical specialists, including three urgent requests in the past six weeks, prison officials have failed to act.

Additionally, during a hospital examination on July 8, 2024, doctors discovered a fat lump in Narges’s right breast. While the mass was confirmed as benign, it still requires consistent monitoring and follow-up care, which she has not received.

Furthermore, Narges suffers from worsening back pain, for which a specialist prescribed 10 sessions of physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment—none of which have been provided. She also requires an ophthalmologist appointment that has yet to be scheduled.

Urgent Call for Action

Narges Mohammadi’s family demand her immediate transfer to the hospital for the angiography surgery and other medical treatments.
