Despite ongoing concerns over her health and the denial of medical care, Narges Mohammadi, along with four other female political prisoners, has been sentenced to an additional six months of prison time. This new sentence comes in response to their peaceful protest against the execution of Reza Rasai, held inside Evin Prison.

Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and fellow inmates Pakhshan Azizi, Varishe Moradi, Mahbubeh Rezai, and Parivash Moslemi have been handed additional sentences for protesting Rasai’s execution. Mohammadi, Azizi, Moradi, and Rezai each received six-month sentences, while Moslemi was given three months and one day. The charges against them included resisting orders.

The sentencing was issued on October 19, 2024, by the Criminal Court Branch 2 of the Ghods Judicial Complex in Tehran, presided over by Judge Abolfazl Amari Shahabi. According to Hrana, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, only Parivash Moslemi attended the court session, as the other prisoners refused to appear.

This joint case stems from an incident on August 6, 2024, when the women in Evin’s ward protested the execution of Rasai, a protester from the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. During this peaceful protest, prison guards violently attacked the women, with Narges Mohammadi being punched so hard in the chest that she fainted. Despite this, she has yet to receive medical care.

Following the protest, the five women were banned from making phone calls and family visitations. These restrictions remain in place, with Mohammadi’s ban on phone calls and visits continuing since November 29, 2023—50 days after the announcement of her Nobel Peace Prize.
