Women of Evin protest death sentence of fellow inmate Pakhshan Azizi
Female political prisoners at Tehran’s Evin Prison staged an overnight sit-in on Wednesday 24th of July 2024 to protest the recent death sentence handed down to fellow cellmate Pakhshan Azizi.
The women of Evin united in their demand, stating: “We call for the immediate cessation of Pakhshan Azizi’s execution sentence. We urge everyone to amplify their voices in support of female political and ideological prisoners.”
Gathering in the prison yard, the female prisoners voiced their opposition to Azizi’s death sentence, chanting “No to execution!” They announced their intention is to remain in the yard overnight & they will not return to their cells, as a sign of protest.
This protest was reported on July 24, almost a day after the court’s announcement of Azizi’s death sentence.
Azizi, is the second woman in the past month to be sentenced to death for “armed rebellion” following labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi. The Hengaw Human Rights Organization, which focuses on Iran’s Kurdish minority, reported that Azizi was deprived of legal counsel and family visits for months, denying her a fair trial.
Hengaw also released a letter from Azizi detailing torture and abuse during her detention, and authorities have reportedly denied her family contact for the past two weeks.
Amnesty International’s annual report on the death penalty, published in May, highlighted Iran’s alarming execution rates, revealing that nearly 74% of all recorded executions worldwide last year occurred in Iran.

چهارشنبه ۳ مرداد ۱۴۰۳، زنان زندان اوین با تحصن به حکم اعدام پخشان عزیزی اعتراض کردند. اکثر زنان زندانی سیاسی با عقاید مختلف در بند زنان اوین، در اعتراض به صدور حکم اعدام برای پخشان عزیزی، در یک حرکت جمعی، اقدام به تحصن در حیاط این بند نمودند.
زنان بند اوین یک‌صدا اعلام می‌کنند: خواهان لغو حکم اعدام پخشان عزیزی هستیم، از تمام مردم می‌خواهیم با زنان زندانی سیاسی_عقیدتی هم‌صدا شوید
زنان زندانی سیاسی اعلام نمودند که از ساعت ۷ بعدازظهر امروز چهارشنبه ۳ مردادماه ۱۴۰۳ بوقت ایران، در حیاط بند خواهند بود و شب به داخل بند بازنخواهند گشت.
