Happy World Press Freedom Day to journalists around the globe, especially those imprisoned, including in Iran.

The women’s ward at Evin Prison has witnessed the bravery of many journalists, and currently houses two such individuals.

Vida Rabbani, a journalist and member of the Tehran Journalists’ Association, was first detained in December 2019 for reporting on a protest at Amir Kabir University against the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752. She was released a few hours later. On the anniversary of the November massacre and the downing of the same Ukrainian plane a year later, Rabbani was arrested again. She spent a month in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention center, known as “209,” where she was interrogated. In the summer of 2021, she received a sentence of three years in prison, two additional years of suspended prison time, 74 lashes, and a professional ban. Following the nationwide protests over the death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini, Rabbani was arrested once more on October 1, 2021. She was convicted of acting against national security and spreading propaganda against the regime, resulting in a six years and three months prison sentence. This sentence was pardoned in a general amnesty in June 2022. She is currently serving her remaining time in Evin Prison.

روز جهانی آزادی مطبوعات بر روزنامه نگاران جهان و ایران به ویژه روزنامه نگاران زندانی مبارک باد.

بند زنان زندان اوین  شاهد حضور روزنامه نگاران شجاعی بوده و این ایام نیز دو روزنامه نگار در میان ماست.

ویدا ربانی، روزنامه نگار و عضو انجمن صنفی روزنامه نگاران تهران نخستین بار دی ماه۱۳۹۸ به دلیل حضور و تهیه گزارش از تجمعی که در برابر دانشگاه امیرکبیر در اعتراض به ساقط کردن هواپیمای پرواز PS752 برگزار شده بود بازداشت و ساعاتی بعد آزاد شد.

او یک سال بعد و در سالگرد کشتارآبان و ساقط کردن هواپیمای اوکراینی بار دیگر بازداشت و به مدت یک ماه در بازداشتگاه وزارت اطلاعات موسوم به ۲۰۹ مورد بازجویی قرار گرفت و نهایتا در تابستان ۱۴۰۱ به سه سال حبس تعزیزی و ۲ سال حبس تعلیقی، ۷۴ ضربه شلاق و ممنوع الکاری محکوم شد.

ربانی بار دیگر در ۱ مهر ۱۴۰۱ در پی اعتراضات سراسری به قتل مهسا(ژینا) امینی بازداشت و به جرم اقدام علیه امنیت ملی و تبلیغ علیه نظام به شش سال و سه ماه حبس تعزیری محکوم شد که در خرداد ۱۴۰۲ این حکم مشمول عفو عمومی شد. این روزنامه نگار از آن زمان تا کنون  در حال گذراندن دوران حبس خود در زندان اوین است.
